Job Description

The Climate Action Officer will report to the Senior Manager. The role requires a good technical knowledge of climate change, the risks and possible adaptation strategies. They will be able to work within, and lead, multi-disciplined teams and have the ability to motivate and encourage personnel under their control to achieve maximum performance.


The ideal candidate will have an interest in the climate change agenda and a good understanding of the objectives of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021 and the National Adaptation Framework. They will have experience in one or more of the areas of Engineering, Town Planning, Environmental Science or Architecture.

The local authority sector recognises that in order to support our communities, local enterprises and the wider public sector to deliver on climate policy ambitions, there needs to be a consistent focus on building internal capacity and enabling organisational culture change.


Alongside supporting the Climate Action Coordinator in designing and delivering climate action strategies and policies, the proposed Climate Action Officer resource will drive organisational change initiatives. This will enable effective delivery, while building capacity across the partnership local authorities work with.

Salary: €59,067 - €82,108
